NatCapVidMo Day 1: Transcription and Translation

I fooled you with that title, didn't I? I was especially tickled by the mention of the transcription happening in realtime. (CART, you'll remember, stands for Communication Access Realtime Transcription). But strangely enough, I didn't find this video by searching for "realtime" or "transcription". I went through the archives of some of my favorite videos and found a link to a 7-minute video by the same animation company, and decided that a 4-minute video was more my speed for the fist day of NatCapVidMo. So I clicked this one, got it all down on my steno machine, and captioned it in just a few minutes using Universal Subtitles. Easy as anything. This video goes out to my brother William (last seen in What Is Steno Good For Part Four: Mobile and Wearable Computing), who's a PhD in biochemistry with a special love for ribosomes. I'll have another captioned video for you tomorrow. As always, requests are welcome. 'Til then!

  1. Q please: is there a way to make the captions somewhat bolder? (the white seems to be a bit fragmented?). Just curious.
What you are doing is GREAT! Thanks so much.

  2. I'm afraid I can't change the caption typeface; it's just the default setting of Universal Subtitles, and there doesn't seem to be any way to change it.

  3. I just captioned a music video for fun also using Universal Subtitles tool. Did you just copy/paste the embed code for it to display?

It won't accept the code on my WordPress blog. This was a known bug but I was hoping it had been fixed now. Hurry up beta developments :P

  4. Oh, I'm sorry to hear that about WordPress. Yep, I just copied the embed code and pasted it with no problems. I hope the Universal Subs guys fix the WordPress issue soon!

  5. Wow, that video is very impressive. It's the best one I've seen so far that balances the unknowable chaotic flurry of the molecular world with a schematic representation appreciable by humans. Thanks for putting it out there Mirabai!
